Josh Davis is a journalist, filmmaker and assistant professor of journalism at San Francisco State University. Prior to joining the faculty at SF State, Josh received a Peabody and several Emmy Awards for producing social justice documentaries for VICE News, The New York Times and NPR. His roles required him to spearhead in-depth projects and to have the vision to tell stories in innovative ways. At VICE News, he directed the Peabody Award-winning documentary, Charlottesville: Race and Terror, which reported on the deadly white nationalist rally in 2017. The documentary received over 60 million views, and the reporting became a powerful check to President Trump’s claim that there were “very fine people on both sides.” At NPR, Josh directed the Emmy Award-winning multimedia project, Planet Money Makes A T-Shirt. It was pioneering in scope and led the conversation about new forms of digital storytelling. Josh previously taught at NYU, Columbia and CUNY after earning his graduate degree in visual communication from UNC-Chapel Hill. He currently serves as on the Board of Directors for the National Press Photographers Association.
